Credit Check (Hard vs Soft)

A credit check is a search of your credit file by a lender.. A soft search does not leave a visible mark on your credit file and cannot be seen by other lenders — used for indicative decisions and DIPs. A hard search is recorded on your file and is visible to future lenders for 12 months — used for full mortgage applications

Multiple hard searches in a short period can affect your credit score.
