Shared ownership allows buyers to purchase a share of a property (typically 25–75%) and pay rent on the remaining share, which is owned by a housing association.. Over time you can purchase additional shares (staircasing) until you own 100%. A mortgage is required only for the share you are buying
Shared ownership properties are leasehold and subject to service charges.
