Mortgage Stress Test

A mortgage stress test is part of the affordability assessment — lenders check whether you could still afford your mortgage if interest rates rose by a given amount (typically 3% above the reversion rate).. If you cannot pass the stress test, the lender will reduce the amount they will lend. This is designed to ensure borrowers are not overextended if rates increase.
