Underwriting
Mortgage underwriting is the process by which a lender's underwriter assesses the full risk of a mortgage application — verifying income, employment, credit history, property valuation and affordability.. Underwriting can be automated (algorithmic) or manual. Complex cases — self-employed applicants, unusual income structures, non-standard properties — typically require manual underwriting.
