Exchange of Contracts

Exchange of contracts is the point at which a property sale becomes legally binding.. Both parties sign the same contract and the buyer pays the deposit (typically 5–10% of the purchase price). If either party pulls out after exchange, the other is entitled to damages

The completion date is agreed at exchange.. Prior to exchange, either party can walk away without penalty.
