HMO (House in Multiple Occupation)
A House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) is a property rented by three or more unrelated people who share common facilities such as a bathroom or kitchen.. HMOs typically generate higher rental yields than single-let properties but are subject to mandatory licensing by local authorities, fire safety regulations and minimum room size requirements. HMO buy-to-let mortgages require specialist lenders who understand this property type.
